Homelux v Fast Flex

I have been to see a job........kitchen/diner.

U shaped room plyed in Kitchen, New Chipboard in diner. Had a builder in after I noticed major bouncing in diner, and apparantly the joists were strengthend and chip layed. Cannot detect anymore movement.....but that does'nt mean there is'nt any????

Left them to arrange matching expansion strip for doorway between both.

They are not keen at all to lift height of room (overply) so it is gonna be a toss up between Homelux matting or fast flex.

Cost is gonna be the decider.

Its around 22m, but with another 2 rooms to be done at a later date

Dont think they would go for ditra......and I'm not sure around my way where to get it from anyway:whatchutalkingabout

Homelux is a crack isolation/tanking membrane cj....not an uncoupling membrane like ditra or durabase ......plus uncoupling membranes are only for lateral movement and not deflection...

Fastflex would be the option..but you need zero deflection for any guarantee from BAL..

Plus i aint no fan of tiling straight onto chipboard.....

I know homelux is for tanking...but was thinking of using it on the floor in this instance as, like you I dont like tiling straight onto chipboard. Would prefer to overboard and then single part flex. Not sure if they will go for the cost of fast flex :furious3: but.......I have just remembered that Topps do the palace 2 part for a lot less, and I can't find my price list:mad2:

its about £21 a kit. may be a bit less if its still on offer

Personally - 6mm ply over the the chipboard crossing existing joints and to keep height down over lay with Dura-wp, it will cope with any latteral deflection you will get on that..........

If they wont let you over board I would say no to it to big a traffic area to many joints..........

i think id pass on this cj,unless they do the full belt and braces,the floor is too big to risk it, up to 5mts the very max on chip is ok (re screwded) even then i only use 2 part.
its one of those jobs just waiting to go wrong,do it to full spec or walk away.
