If the guy is dodgy and you think he might not pay get him to pay in stages or in advance as a deposit. Give him the old story did a job for a guy recently and got stung he never paid me after all I did for him blah blah but because of this I now take x amount up front then x amount after x days and remainder on completion ie I dont bill you at end of job and wait days to be paid I expect payment when I have completed the job. Say its no reflection on him or any customer you now treat everyone the same as you have lost to much money and its a sad way the country is when you have to do this.

If he aint going to cough up some money after x days he could be hassle.

Just to give you an update on this one: I phoned the guy back last night and quoted him a day rate, but I could not say how long the job would last. He was not happy with the price so he asked for an overall cost. I quoted him to do all the tiling inc. mats, and to lay Hardibacker floor. Under the proviso that he gets a plasterer in to sort out the walls, and he gets a plumber & sparks in too. His quick mind then suggested that we take the tiles off together and we just tile straight onto what’s behind the tiles. Yesterday he gave me the impression that he had bought tiles & materials - he had not. He also gave me the impression that he had bought a £1000 mobility shower (the one you sit into). He had not. He told me today that the shower people wanted £240 to assemble the shower unit and to secure it to the wall & floor. He believes he can do this himself as he has some roofing glue in his shed. I told him to get a builder in to do the work and to get himself a Polish lad to do the labouring. I told him that there are plenty of Polish shops with cards in the window. He then asked me for a list of Polish shops where he lives. I give up. Hopefully this will be my final update. Cheers Sean
