In distance or time ? would you or do you work away from home ?
I will go anywhere, i just priced a job in Geneva  and constantly work away, sting in B&B'S.......

An hour from home is far enough for me, would travel further for the right money, never stay over though I like my own bed at night!

used to work all over the place, stayed in b&bs, back of the van, even slept on an old pile of carpet once on a job in holland....lol

but i prefer to stay local now, no more than a 50 mile radious..

Europe a few times, Holland and Germany. All over the UK. Furthest from home Dallas TX, Chicago Ill, Plymouth Ca. If the money is right and the job is interesting I would travel anywhere.

farthest i've been is Los Angeles where I worked for 3 months, about once a year i go up into central highlands of Scotland for a few weeks, rest of the time about a 10 mile radius of home:thumbsup:

I'll go, where the music takes me......................... opps sorry, wrong thread 😀 I will and have worked anywhere, if the pay is right distance is not an issue.

never been abroad to work the furthest iv been would probaly be swindon, worked all over scotland and still do, mostly glasgow thankfully

When I did the shopfitting, most of my work was all over Ireland and the UK. Didn't mind it at the time but wouldn't be fussed on working away from home these days. Can earn the same 10 miles up the road as I can 3 hours away. Would probably still do the odd one off job away if there was a killing to be made at it, but doesn't seem to be these days.

distance no object, as long as the price is right, sleeping in vans done that ,and still do some times slept on site not so long ago , at my tender age its getting harder

Greater Glasgow for me. About a 25 mile radius from city centre. If the price is right though, don't mind traveling a little further up to 50 mile

A question forr all those of you who have worked abroad, how easy is it to get your tools shipped over and does it cost much?

I travel upto 1.5 hrs in time to work and back anything over that time i then get b+b as its no longer cost affective to drive there and back everyday, I also work all over the uk if the money is there!
I seldom work in my own area as the work is very basic and it doesn't interest me and the customers seem to know more then the tiler does about how it should be done(Or so they think)

Last time I worked in Spain I just took my ts40 crammed my trowel and a couple of tools in the box,and took that, and padlocked it The customer had a mixing drill...otherwise just fill your bags up and take some shorts 😉

Been working in the south for a while now 2 weeks on then 2 weeks back home working locally!
Tiling down there for a Great Forum Member and it gives me the opportunity of staying with my Mam.
You don't realise how good it is to have your shirts washed and ironed every day, a bait box ready in the fridge to go and then back in the evening to watch a bit of telly before she's off to bed.
But that's now. Previously when a trip abroad is offered I usually price it up to go as it's great experience and usually very interesting.

In Europe I just took the van, but in the states the company we were working for shipped a container over, they supplied everything tools, boots, hard hats, hi vis vests etc. unfortunately most of it went missing in transit, so the vice president of the company took me to a tool mart, like Wall mart, only just tools. I was like a kid in a sweet shop, seven of everything levels, trowels, chalk lines, on and on. Marshaltown trowels, floats, you name it they bought it. Sadly we had to leave most of it behind when we finished.

I've just got back from a week own south, a 600 mile trip. Off to Guernsey for 10 days later this month, if the work is there then so am I! Fully booked with local work in December which will make a change

I was down South last weekend, Petersfield, 16 miles north of Portsmouth, with the travel from site to the digs and back, 750 miles round trip, I think I'll be back down next weekend, still a cloakroom and 2 en-suite shower rooms to do, if and when they can pick a tile lol.
