Discuss How good is Schluter Ditra? in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.

Well, my Schluter Ditra matting has arrived. Looks very thin!

Its going on to floorboards which I'll obviously really need to screw down tight.

Also, we're using 600mm square floor tiles.

Is it really capable of taking this porcelain tile?

Whats the best adhesive to apply straight to the floor to put the matting on?

TIA

I think you'll get lots of similar responses to that question; all based around the fact that Schluter's technology is just leagues ahead of.... well, there isn't any competition for them really - it's just really that good. Put your trust in it like we do.

If you are putting it onto timber then Ardex AF200 is recommended for Ditra. I seem to recall your original post asking about tiling onto timber and the use of Ditra (I am correct aren't I?) but don't recall you saying you would be using 600x600 tiles.

I have not been in the trade that long but to put that size of tile onto a timber floor without bracing leaves me with a little apprehension.

Ditra is an excellent product but it does not stop deflection. If your tiles were a smaller format I would say get right on with it, but that size of tile.... I am not so sure without bracing the floor first!

I went to the Schluter stand at the T&S show and asked what i should use to stick it to the chipboard substrate, they advised me to use a single part rapid set flexi addy. I used a 3mm trowel and Ultra rapid set flexi, i then used the same addy to stick the tiles on to it. No probs so far:thumbsup:.
As to whether it's any good, well you just have to take the manufacturers word for it i guess. Unless you able to see it do what it says on the tin,and no cracks appear, i would say it's great.

Pardon me Boss but that has to be the most biased un-supportable statement of the week, the fact that Schluter make it (and they dont) makes it no better than others. ....:lipsrsealed2:

"Schlooter aint nothing special they just market their products better than others"

Ditra and Durabase CI are an equivelent product and there are at least 2 products available on the market today ahead in ease to lay, lower compression factor and lower instal heightl....... :book2:
