Hiya chaps,

I have two jobs to quote for but thought I would ask your advice first.

1.) A Bathroom, 9.5m2, tiling on to exsisting tiles. (All look pretty sound and flat.) The toilet and sink are boxed so there will be no need to cut round them! I came to a price of £250 but I have a habit of under quoting! So on previous form it should be more like £350. What do you reckon?

2.) A hallway floor, 4.5m2, tiling onto wooden floor (not nasty laminate reall old wood floor. There is a area of about half a metre square that will be in mosaic (not done this on a floor before) I will have to board with 12mm ply will I not? Plus i said i will do door trims etc. I've got £225 ???

Cheers guys

Well, I have yet to price up my first propper "customer paying" job, but I get around £290 all in for the first job.

Second job I'd probably be looking at £112 for the boarding out, but you have not said what tiles you'd be laying on the floor other than the section of mosaics.

Yeah sorry guys, they are 12x12 ceramics. They seemed quite thin to me actually. I got 225 for the boarding out, priming and laying the tiles etc. That would include adhesive.

The first one I think should be more. I would normally workout price on m2 but it's never that simple with a full bathroom it seems! I charged 150 for 5.9m2 a couple off weeks ago so based on 2 and a half to 3 days i get between £285 and £360. I think i will charge £285

Good luck with the job Gaz :)

Don't forget to take some pics of you on site there, with a method statement of how you did the job and what tools/materials you used.

Great evidence for your NVQ in the future if you decide to do it.

Great to see your doing well mate :)

Cheers Phil/Anthony/Margaret

Good to see you posting on the forum. Nearly dropped in for a brew last friday. Still might soon.

Good luck Gaz..just goes to show ya that it aint all about the money to some customers and more to do with if they trust you or not and if they like you

Well done mate and good luck

A bit of advise i would give you is to point out that you won't 100% gaurentee the work because although you have checked the exsisting tiles for suitability to fix on top off you can never really be shure of whats going on underneath.

TJs right, some people arent fussed about the cost, Ive had people tell me the jobs mine purely coz i turned up on time to price it!
Few rules I always go by;
1. arrive on time to quote (5 mins earlier if poss)
2. Shake customers hand
3.Take your shoes off when you go in! goes a long way with a lot of people.
4. Be polite. Advise them what to do, dont tell them. Its their house!
5. send a written quote or email it, alot of people dont like being told a price there and then coz they feel pressured to make a decision. That way you can work it out properly rather than coming up with a price there and then and later realising youve forgotten something that might eat into your profit.
Ive gone by these few rules for 7 years, Ive never advertised and have built up a really good reputation. People like someone they can trust with a key if they need to go out etc.
