How much of the wall should I tank

Hi all, I'm going to be fitting a new shower. I've read plenty of advice on kerdi vs liquid membrane etc etc, but one question I don't see being asked is how much of the wall should you do - lets say my bathroom is 3m by 3m and I'm putting in a 900mm Quadrant. How much of the two walls that touch would you waterproof - just the bit behind the shower and a "bit more" ? If so, can't the water go "around" the matting/membrane then?

Usually 300mm past shower area is just fine for most brands

You should tank inside the wet zone(anywhere that may get wet) from floor to ceiling if using a tray, a wet room is a different matter.

Moisture will just evaporate - If there's water trickling down behind your tiles then you've got problems!

No. It should be tray in first then then the tape in the kit laps down on top, then the membrane goes over the tape, bridging the gap between the wall and the tray, preventing anything getting in between.

I disagree that's the best way to tank a shower enclosure is to fit the tray and tank down to it. Surely the best way is to fully tank the wall to the floor, then fit the tray, Silicon it well with a profile tool, then tile.

When tiling to a tray I prefer it fitted with Classi seal, Silicon that to the wall, overlap it with tanking tape then also the verticals and paste the lot.
