how to dot n dab plasterboard

hi all,if i was doing a splashback and the walls were in a poor state could i dot n dab board onto this and would it be sufficient to hold to the wall properly using this method?? if so what is the type of plaster you use for dott n dabbing?? any help appreciated

No problem kilty, this is an often used method and you can use most adhesives for fixing them. Just make sure if applying cement based adhesive to gypsum skim, then prime it first....Gaz

kilty,use plasterboard adhesive which you can buy in b and q for about £5.50 a 20kg bag m8.Dab it on the reverse of the gyproc and put dabs every 6inches in a grid,just like screwing screws into ply.Use a level to tap board to wall and to get level.Its a doddle m8

And if you've never used it before, plasterboard adhesive goes off mega fast - in only a few minutes. Don't mix loads, and work fast!

ivae allways been told it goes off fast but when i've used it its had plenty of time to mess about with (bedding it in and leveling it wise) tho when it comes to plasterboard i guess im pretty quick at that now so once a bucket full of adhesive is mixed up i soon slap it on the walls without giving it time to go off in the bucket,, says 90 minutes workable time on the bag tho?
