How to tile an angled window?

Hi,

I have an angled window in the bathroom which I want to keep angled and would like some advice on how best to tile it. I've uploaded some pictures with two options and would like to know what's best to do.

Option 1 - is keeping the edge of the angled window in line with the grout line
The problem with this is that the width of the tiles means that the grout lines either side of the window will not line up (actually I don't think this is possible)


Option 2 - ignores the grout line and tiles around it

Go with the second option and work your cuts around the window.
If the window is out and you use a full tile to the edge then you could end up with a hideous gap.

To be honest you have your work cut out already looking at the lines around the window. Also is that backing plaster? Im afraid that needs skimming to be able to tile to it as backing plasters are not suitable to tile to.

centre the window and mitre the tiles, it will look a treat

Do you mean like this (this is actually fairly to scale with the number of tiles?)

Option3 - Window centered horizonally and vertically and tiles placed from center lines.

That looks fine, how does it work into the corners of the room?

There will be a 5cm tile on the right and a 13cm tile on the left. The tiles are 25cm wide.
Do you think that will look OK?

If thats on the window, could you move it over a bit to balance the cuts

the 5cm on the right is the width of the tile into the corner of the room on the right and 13cm tile width to the corner on the left (as the window is slightly off-center to the wall).

If your happy with that then thats fine, sometimes it's a balancing act

Looking at Pic 3 , the first row of tiles looks a bit squint!! i would use batton stand next time to make sure you get them level and redo!! lol! ;-) ... joking aside, i would put up with the 5 cm tile in corner to achieve centralisation of the window deppendong how contrasting a grout colour you are using, like if you are using white tile and white grout then you wont really notice anyway.. hope this helps, good luck!
