how to tile on floorboard

hollydolly

hi new at this tiling only previously tiled small entry. as being a woman i would like to know the easiest and cheapest way to tile a small kitchen i read through some of your previous posts and its all greek to me. so anything b&q stocks would be fine or ready made and simple to use.
kind regards, grace.

Hi Grace, welcome to the forums. As you have said. there is loads already in the forums for this topic. Best way would be to do a "search" in the box at the top for "floorboards" and see what results it brings.

Generally the pros on here will steer you away from anything B&Q especially adhesives and grout, and will recommend a powder based adhesive of one sort or another.

Tiling on floorboards is not straight forward and you really need to spend sometime searching through the previous posts on the forums to learn the pitfalls and how to overcome them.

Hello grace and welcome...............

I would recommend a 2 part adhesive for tiling over floor boards if that is the way you want to go.......but i personally like to overboard with a backerboard /ply etc......i'm not a lover of tiling straight over floors boards....but some peeps do and have no bother....

good luck..

Hi Holly

Its not always possible to provide "cheap" and "easy" way when fairly difficult substrates are presented for tiling particularly as the most important thing is to provide a "succesful" result Failure can give a bad example to other often influential people who will then find alternative finishes other than tiles.

If the boards are in poor condition either remove them and fit sheet marine grade plywood or overlay them with the same, minimum 18mm thick, screw fixed down the joists (floor boards) at 250mm centres. Fix ceramic or porcelain to the former in Keraquick incorporating Latex Plus or S2 Ultraflex Quick or to the overlay in Keraquick i.e. no admix.

If the floor boards are in good condition then screw fix each of them to the joists and fix tiling in Keraquick incorporating Latex Plus OR S2 Ultraflex Quick

use Ultracolor Plus grout, 26 colours and no admix required

so if i put down ply wood first. how easy is this to handle and is it precut?. do i need a sealer and what is it and where do i get it. and when you mention a part of this and 2 parts of that i take it you have to mix it yourself!. well seen i've never done this before!!!
thank you for any information.
kind regards, grace.

12mm plywood from wickes or similar..........glued and screwed down every 6" in all directions.

Find a Topps tiles or similar and go for a flexible adhesive, which should do for your particular job.........also flexible grout.

I would not recommend tiling straight to floorboards, as I have been on many a repair job where tiles have cracked all along the floorboard joints.

Board the area out with ply and prime with APD Primer.

that sounds quite easy now! thank you for all your expert advice. will come on again when ready to start which may take a while as just finished decorating the house from hell!!!!
kind regards, grace.
