Hello everyone. I've just joined this forum because I need some info regarding substrates etc. I'm mainly just a DIY guy, but have worked casually, in a number of trades. I'm not usually a "tweeter", so I'll have to see how things go!
I'm currently refurbishing my bathroom, and have come up against a problem or two.
1, Hacking off the old tiles from a studding wall has caused some damage to the plaster board. I've decided to replace some of it and I'm wondering if I can tile straight onto the new boards or do I have to skim first?
2, On another (plastered block) wall I noticed that in places the tiles came off a bit too easily because the underlying paint lifted off with the old adhesive. This makes me wonder if it's a good idea to tile painted walls. I know it's been done lots of times and it may be just the inferior paint that the original builders used. Is it OK to tile over silk vinyl paint?
