Hi to all you would be tilers out ther ,
just a quicky on my tiling coarse experience , wanting to be self employed i chose to do a 4 week tiling coarse , which i must say was very , very good , the instructor really knew his stuff BUT , i felt you needed to be some kind of mathmatician to get your head round the setting out process , if like me you struggle with numers and maths be warned , i`m still gonna try with my goal to become a s/e tiler but it will be with guaging rods rather than the mathematical solution , the coarse gave me a good insight to tiling , taught me what makes a good tiler from a bad one , but i came to the conclusion you can not teach someone in 4 weeks whay someone has done all there life ,
the coarse teaches you the finish but i feel it doesn`t teach you what you are gonna find wrong with substraights and subfloors to get to the point of the finish , i.e screeding a floor , replacing plasterboards behind bathroom and kitching fittings , plstering / rendering , all the things you can only learn from site experience , i`m glad i done the coarse but it`s all very well in a controlled envirment with budget whites i think it will be a bit different in a customers house with a £25 tile in my hand ,
this is just my view and i`m still gonna try to succeed as a tiler but i just wanna say don`t expect to do a coarse and off you go there alot more that comes with site experience that you won`t learn at these schools , good luck to you all , hope you get out of it what you want ,
regards steadsy-boy
