1.Measure the free floor area where the mat is
to be fitted and select mat size equal to the
free floor area, or under.

2. Determine the thermostat position and cut a
groove into the floor and wall approx 10mm
deep and wide for the floor sensor and tube. The
tube allows for easy removal of the floor sensor if
required. The thermostat should be mounted
outside the bathroom.

3. Before installation, the floor must be clean and
dry, primed if necessary. Once the mat has
been tested, it can be rolled out and laid onto
the floor.

4. At the end of mat run, cut the mesh, turn the
mat and lay the next piece beside the first.
The heating cable must NOT be cut.

5. Test the mat again.

6. Cover with one layer of flexible tile adhesive
or self levelling compound and allow to dry
before tiling, or lay the mat/adhesive and tiles
together. A flexible tile adhesive and grout should
always be used.

7. Test the mat again.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS SHOULD BE MADE
BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
NB. The use of insulation on a concrete floor may reduce the amount of heat loss downwards and improve the efficiency of the system. If this is
used, it should be of the ‘tile backer’ type board.

..........dave..

We at Topps Preston recommend the insulation board if cable is directly onto concrete....the savings are quite staggering..the efficiency of the system is at maximum....Gaz

WARMUP INSULATION BOARD
is a water resistant insulated tile backer board made of extruded polystyrene, faced on both sides with a fibreglass mesh embedded into a thin cement polymer mortar.

These can be used as a structural tile backer board in the floor. It will withstand a load of 30 tonnes per square metre and is ideal for use with underfloor heating as it pushes the heat into the room, by not allowing heat to penetrate down into the concrete substrate below. As a wall tile backer board, tiles can be fixed directly on to the surface without prior preparation and, being totally waterproof, which is ideal for use in bathrooms or showers.
Warmup Insulation Boards will save you money when used in conjunction with undertile heating by acting as a very efficient thermal barrier. It reflects the heat upwards into the floor tile instead of allowing heat to warm up the concrete slab below. By using Warmup Insulation Board you will find that after switching on your heating, your floor tiles will warm up in about 10-15 minutes. Without insulation boards it could take anything from 2-3 hours, or more.....Gaz
