Insurance work.

Just had a call from a potential customer.She is claiming her insurance and was wanting me to quote but was told by her insurance company that the tiler has to be VAT registered ,can anyone tell me why this is because its the first time i have come up against a situation like this.

just spoke to a few mates who are slef employed and they said just give the quote but add on a little extra because you will be waiting for your money.I dont know if its her insurance company policy for the tiler to be vat reg.Its only 5 mins away so will give her a quote.

Insurance work is a good lark down here. Looking into the vat reg thing might well be worth your while Bri.

its so the insurance co can claim the vat back on the whole job.most arent bothered but times are hard even for them b******s. so they are looking for every penny

done a few insurance jobs, never been asked for vat, mostly a pain in the a*se , pump up the price to make it worth your while and get a deposit for a quote say £30/40 deductable when job complete to deter time wasters...

i do know tilers that do alot of insurance work and they arent vat registered personally i dont think i would touch insurance jobs ive heard bad things about them

Went to see a small job to repair a artex ceiling 1m2, Quoted £150 for insurance, Got a phone call to say the insurance had agreed a quote for £500 from another guy, I'm talking over 15 years ago. They worked out something together, I was staggered

Sorry to tell you but I was told by my accountant the insurance companies cannnot claim the VAT back as the work is not for them but for the client So they actually have to swallow the VAT!

Ive done a few insurance jobs, it was a pain writing a full quote out.
Usually get the work and the client has paid me with the insurance company then paying them. These where both just shower areas so small jobs, maybe bigger jobs the insurance boys keep the reins on a bit more. That VAT issue is a complete nonsence!:mad2:
