Hello peeps...

My mates a kitchen fitter and as a contract with magnets fitting their kitchens...He rang me today and asked me to do a splashback so i said yes...

Anyways he rang me a few hours ago saying "mark the job is worth £170" So i replied "whats the substrate like, tiles, adhesive etc.... oh and size of job and how many windows sockets?" He replied "7 1/2 sqm, 8 sockets and 2 windows" The tiles are 100 x 100 so thats 750 tiles to stick up!!:mad2:

So i said personally i think 170 is a bit low, as if i was pricing it i would allow 2 days at day rate £150 so £300..

Hes a good friend and grew up with him, i know if i do this job he will give me lots of work but is £170 worth it or is he taking the pi**

Any replies appreciated guys

Monty

being a good mate goes both ways!!

mates that dont pay you the going rates are not mates, they are a pain in the r's in my opinion because if they are prepared to under pay you then, there not very good mates are they?? the last thing you need is him calling you up every other week with the promise of under payed work..

just be polite and tell him that you want 300 pounds because that is what the job is worth, if he says no then fair enough, you have got him out of the way and if he agrees, then thats what he''ll expect he's got to pay you in the future. that way everyone knows where they stand..

This is something that annoys me alot.

Many people expect a tiler to be able to shoot through a job in no time. This may be the case for some realy experienced tilers but, not everyone can work like this. And, not everyone who can, can do it to the best standard.

I have learnt to respect other trades alot over the last few years, many people under estimate the true skill involved in any trade.

I was getting my haircut last year and told the barber that I was doing a tiling course at college. he said 'surely tiling cant be that hard' meaning, why go to college I imagine. If tiling wasn't that hard you wouldn't see some guys doing 4 year apprenticeships for it. Same goes for any trade.

Stick to your guns in temrs of pricing and only accept less if it feels right for you.
