Is it worth getting a website?

hi all
i keep putting off setting up a website,but was asked yet again yesterday if i have one as they wanted too use me for some work and wanted too check out some previous work
basically who on here has one,how easy was it too set up and where do you start/
i have a domain name and thats about it

I don't have one Pete, thought about it a few times, but as we're out in the sticks so to speak I've always found referrals and recommendations keep me going.

I have 1 and get a little bit of work from it. Some customers look at it as see that your no cowboy and they like to see previous work.

I'd advise any business at all to have a good website whether you're busy or not. But then I perhaps would say that eh?

If you're super busy, use a gallery on it to display all your work, and if you're ever not busy in the future the leg work has already been done so potential customers get to see how awesome you are. If you're not busy, it's a great form of advertising and if you keep it updated you can get it to work really well for you.

A quick and easy way to get a low cost good website online is to use Wordpress.com and use your own domain name to point to their free hosting. Then configure the blog to work like a website (basically enable the pages option and disable the blog option) and add a few pages and more importantly, a way to contact you.

Mine is hosted by LCN and it comes with Serif design software so I can design to my hearts content, not make do with templates. Both LCN and Serif are based in the UK so its easy to get good advice when needed.

I have a Wordpress based website hosted by 1&1. It has paid for itself twice over and lots of people comment on it. I did it all myself (I must update my pics on there!!!) so it proves it can't be that hard to do!!!

I use 1&1 I done the website myself, but I find having my own domain with email seems more professional when sending out quotations, rather than @Hotmail or gmail etc.. Can't say I have had a job through my site but I'm sure some customers must have a look after receiving the e-mail lol.

I find it generates work for me. I advertise through yell and a lot of people say that they contacted me because I have a website where they can see my work.

Yea get a little from it. I do turn most of it away as they won't it done normally next week. But in my eyes for 26 a month it's worth it.
