Hi Guys
Just wondered what your thoughts are on spacing travertine , my personal preference is 2mm spaces wall and floor,
doing so much travertine at the moment and always full bathrooms walls and floor so seems sensible for the best finish keeping all grout lines bang on , i know BS says min 2mm wall / 3mm floor
my floors always solid never any comebacks but am i likely to ?
have you guys ever had problems along these lines ?

cheers

1.5mm up to 2 mm max.

Any bigger then that only shows how unprofessional you are

Really depends on the quality(sizeyness) of the Travertine

1.5mm floor and wall for me .

Every tiler will have there own idea on what looks best, nothing to do with how professional you are

I must be un-professional then, Doing 80 mtrs this week with 2mm but have done lots at 3mm and even 15mm on a cushion edge trav, the customer wanted 15 and he got it. It looked great when finished

If 2mm walls..then floor matches...if perimeter joints are used then this is fine...BS is a standard and NOT a law.. so tiling knowledge will tell you what you can and can't do.
Also BS has to account for large areas of floor tiling , not just your 5-6m2 bathroom floor

I stick with 1.5mm to 2mm tile spacers for floor and wall if its good quality stone with square edges and no variation in the tile size, Unless the customer requires bigger.
If its say tumbled or chipped edge or rounded then i like to use 3,4 or 5mm spacers, it does give it quite a different look depending on what size spacer you use. If it is any of these tile types then when finishing the grout i like to leave it slightly recessed to really show off the edges of the tile, but it is always done as to how the customer prefers the finished look!

This comment has really angered me. My original post in this thread may be wrong, but I am never unprofessional. I agree with others that a smaller room gives tolerance to squeeze the joint. Tell me I am wrong, but don't insult me. This is a forums full of friendly advice and blasé comments like yours are not acceptable.
