is sucess down to hard work or being in the right place

My Dad is extremely 'successful' but has made many enemy's on his way up and now feels the pressure knowing he is very alone.

I want my family to be proud of me not resent me.

Good point Dean... Respect is earned not given.

I worked in an office for 22 years where success was face fitting not what you did and how you did it. My branch was hugely succesful (top 5 out of 150 odd branches) but my face didn't fit with those above - and I didn't want it to in the end as I could see how pathetic all the suck ups were. Now I see success as my reputation earning me a living I am happy with and a happy family life

Being in the right place at the right time?? About 12 years ago I was walking the dog across some fields in Northwich, A renovation was going on and I casually asked if they needed any tiling works doing. That conversation lead onto nearly 10 years of commercial work all over the country. A chance meeting with a customer in a tile shop brought over 3 years of shop fitting (me on the tiling) It is definately down to luck sometimes, saying yes takes your life in different directions, saying no leaves you in a cul-de-sac.

Hard Work to a high standard will always reap rewards. Eventually word of mouth brings dividends! I also agree a little luck can definately help! Cut corners and you are on a hiding to nothing. Charge what you think you are worth! I never compete with others or lower my prices. The Quote is the Quote if I don't get it I move on, I never worry about it or lose sleep over it. Got to be a combination of both for me, when starting out, wife who works in the nhs, touted me at her work, got a couple of jobs straight away, priced them fairly, knowing it could open doors for me, made sure the jobs where **** on, cutting a long story short about 75% of my work has come from the inital jobs, as well as tiling I decorate and plaster so that helps, as always got to work hard to keep the standards up, and price fairly, hope this continues, i,m lucky enough to be booked up till mid feb thanks to nhs.......
