Chaps, don't ever profess to know it all.
Have quoted a 35 sq m kitchen and dining room floor.
They have a massive triangular island unit in the middle. I have quoted them £20 per hour for dry laying & setting out the tiles around the island, prior to laying.
Don't know any other way of making sure both sides meet. Would never ever usually dry lay, but don't see any other solution ?
What's your view ?

I tend to dry lay the first rows around the island as well..but making a staffing rod helps as well...centre all points around the island then ping lines to these points and use your staff rod to work the cuts out....

chalk lines and basic maths

If your chalk lines are a "mm" out at the start of a 2.5 x 2.5 . 3.5 metre island you are f***ed
You need to be millimetre perfect here.
Don't just spout off " chalk lines and basic maths" - if you are that confident you can do it then give a proper explaination. I am asking for help here, not just textbook comments.
In my experence, chalk lines are not ever 100% reliable.
I use a rubi square and straight edges usually, but the nature of the kitchen, with narrow walkways does not able me to use them !!

grid the floor and tile within the grids say 2 tiles and two grout lines are 600 squares of 600 square have had guys tiling diffrent rooms at the same time and meeting up as you would around a swimming pool Pete

i find a rod is not as good as a tape keep the tape on your datum all the time 60 +60 = 120 then 180 then 240 ect then 345 it as large as pos if you keep your chalk lines short it will not wonder Regards Pete

I usually set out using a staff, straight edge and rubi square.
