Just been looking on the Job center plus website at tiling jobs.

Im not in need of one, just curious as to what jobs were out there, and frankly I can't believe the low rates that many are paying.

Experienced wall and floor tiler required to work on domestic and commercial contracts within the Furness area, own tools required, working on your own initiative or within a small team. Full time position 8.00 to 16.30 Mon to Friday, overtime available £ 7.50 per hour reviewed after 3 months full clean drivers licence would be an advantage but not essential

40 hrs over 5 days
Wage £15600 per annum.

and that's one of the better ones

Thing is, nearly every advert is demanding "fully experianced and time searved with own transport and tools, which all combined has cost an absolute tonne, then they offer £6 to £9 per hour.

Just staggering really.

I used to be a roofing foreman for a company.I was on £17000 per annum(about £8 per hour) which is decent money for my area of the country.
The only think was we had a contract with Homebase so had to go all over Britain.I was supplied with all tools and van.The major thing I had a problem with was that we weren't payed for travelling.
We once had a job in Inverness(I live in Lincolnshire)It took 9 hours to get there and the same back so say we left at 5in the morning and got there at 2pm I would have to stay extra each night to make 6 hours up(working day 8-4)and then do extra hours each night to be able to leave a bit earlier on Friday to get home at a decent hour.
The labourers who work hard only come out with £220 for that week.

If people want to have gauranteed work and payed holidays they will work for peanuts, some of the guys there are brilliant at their jobs and would earn alot more in 2 days at home if they went on there own but they want a safe job.
Don't have the business sense or the balls to go on their own
