Kerapoxy vs Ultracolor Plus

Evening All

I'm finally at the point of grouting my first Do It Myself tiling - approx 50sq/m of travertine (600x400) and about 6sq/m of mosaics (23x23) - 4sq/m of these mosaics are in a wetroom.

The tiles have all had their first round of sealer and i'm about to order up the grout - thing is, i've never done grouting before (i'd never done any of it before, so it's been a fun learning experience) - is an epoxy grout really necessary? Would ultracolor plus be a good enough alternative as i've ready that epoxy grout can be a bit hard to work with?

Sorry - should also say - whole wet area has been tanked, walls and floor, using the Dural Durabase stuff. Substrate on wet area is 18mm marine ply from memory (i didn't do that bit).

But it is all tanked though ?

If so then ultra colour is fine

Yep - all tanked - i did that bit - all dural with mapei adhesive (which was good to work with) so thought i'd stick with mapei for the grouts.

also with the ultracolour you can get the matching silicon for the corners

The thing with ultracolour is the sets quicker than standard grout.

is that a positive or negative? i was going to buy the 2kg bags so i haven't got too much on the go and work on a small area at a time..

Hi

I prefer to use epoxy all the time as it is far superior to any cement grout but ultra colour plus is a very good cement grout,

I would recomend you use epoxy at least in your wet room area and on the floor with ultra colour plus in the other areas. (even better right through the whole room)

they are colour matched to each other and the mapei silicone.

dont be scared of using epoxy, it is not hard to use if you follow the instructions/use the correct tools and read a few threads on here.
