i tiled a bathroom floor last october which was a new build, floor was 3m with a border in the middle ,so 1.5m was tiled at a tme onto 18mm ply onto joists with plenty of nogins , primed plywood and left to dry for the day , tiled floor using 600mm by 300mm porcalain tile fixed with ultra single part flexible white,grouted in with mapie ultra , to my amazement the tiles have now all lifted ,the adhesive has stuck to the ply with only an impression of the adhesive on the back of the tile, the grout does not seem to have adherered to the tile well, 1. has the adhesive not stuck to tile 2.or the tile to the ahesive 3. has the floor moved and tacken the adhesive away from the tile , has anyone had a problem like this before

is it the tile, adhesive, movement in floor ect ect ect

Are there any cracks in the adhesive ?
Was the adhesive suitable for Porcelain tiles ?
Is there any bounce in the floor?
Was there any dust on the back of the tiles ?
Also sounds as though the tiles were not back buttered before laying !

Deffo sounds like an adhesion problem.. How much deflection is there..?

if the adhesive has stuck well to the floor i would think it would be either not back-buttering the tile/not pushing the tile into place or dusty tiles,though i think its a mix of the first 2

I've only seen this happen where:

1) adhesive has skinned before laying tiles.
2) dusty backs of tiles prevent adhesive keying
3) failure to back-butter
4) failure to push/twist ensuring 100% coverage

If the addy has stuck well to the ply then It must be one or more of the above?

What colour was the adhesive bag, please?

The advice above seems to have the bases covered, I would just like to eliminate the porcelbond / adhesive failure issue.

I agree, 1st thought goes straight to non-porcelbond addy but Ultra SP flexible is ok for porcelain as far as I can tell.
(I've only ever used it once before and not with porcs.)

the only other thing would be would be if it wasn't rapid and it may of been walked on to soon and broken the bond but it wouldn't be all the tiles new build may have been wet joists and a lot of movement but more than likely as Graces dad says
