Kitchen counter splash-back tile grout failure - u won't believe your eyes!

Hello everyone,

This is my first post ever, and what a stinker of a problem it is!

I removed the laminated chipboard kitchen counter top that the sink sits in. On the wall are the tiles - in which the 10 yr. old grout has failed.

I almost laid an egg!

Given these:

A - It is likely impossible, to find the same pattern/colour of counter top, so I would be unable to simply replace the piece.

What options do I have?

What do I need to be worried about and sort out right now - (e.g u can see some stuff on the plaster - is this going to become a problem. The plaster is absolutely dry).

I really need your advice, anything you care to add, would be most welcome.

I seem to be missing the question, are you just trying to replace the tiles.? or the tiles and the countertop.

Im my honest opinion it looks like both need replacing which shouldn't be to tricky.

it's very difficult to change just the worktops. (without the tiles) judging by the pics the seal between tile and worktop has failed and water has leaked behind. i would rip the old tiles off and fit the new worktops using butt and scribe joint for a good finish then retile starting with a full tile on the worktop then finish with a silicon bead between tile and worktop.

I have looked for the same counter top elsewhere and cannot find a matching design.

Is there any way to save the wood as it is - using some treatment or some epoxy of some kind?

Looks like the units are very dated as well...............does your good lady not fancy a complete revamp. Units, worktops & Tiling. Just think of the brownie points you would get for that.
