Kitchen Floor

I am about to re-tile the kitchen floor 11 sq mt I layed the existing floor many years ago they are solid 8" ceramic, I cant remember mixing any adhesive so I guess I must have used something in a tub, well I was very young, I am now older and I don't really want to attempt to lift the existing floor.
As a DIY'r I thought I would have a read up before laying the new 13" ceramics, and this forum has really opened my eyes.
Am I right in thinking as professionals mixing your own adhesive is a better option than ready mixed tubs.
Can I also take this opportunity to ask if you were laying on top of ceramic (I know its preferred not to), would I need to coat the existing tiles with anything before tiling on top or would a good clean surface be ok.

I only use powdered adhesives for floors, in terms of tiling of tiles, as long as the existing tiles are not loose mate, you shouldnt have any problems.

Make sure your new grout lines dont fall over the existing ones, score the existing tiles and then wash them down with sugar soap, then wipe over with clean water.

I will definitely look into using powdered adhesive, I need to re-read the thread about your most popular brands, I don't remember seeing any supermarket own brands in the list though...................
