Hi Just a quicky

I've got my first kitchen floor coming up, and I was just wondering the best method of finishing up against the plinths of the kitchen units.

My woodworking skills are pretty woeful and so I dont really fancy removing the plinths to try and plane them (especially as most are crappy chipboard).

Can I grout up to the plinth or would I need to run a bead of Silicon around the edges?😕

Any ideas greatly appreciated

thanks🙂

In an ideal world you would take them off and trim to fit, but sometimes its not possible as some can be glued in situ or in bad condition and will break if you take them off.
So just run a bead of clear Silicon around once grout has dried and then no cracks will show..

ok, thanks

what do you normally use to trim them as some can be quite long.

Jigsaw?

doesn't the chipboard tend to splinter if only removing a small amount of material?

if its only small amounts to remove use electric planer and if its quite abit then trim with hand saw or jig saw then final trim with electric planer...

I have used a circular saw and found it very easy to be honest, however that was cutting up large pieces of MDF not small cuts on a thin plinth.

I think the jigsaw seems the best approach, however it is not easy to get a perfectly straight cut every time

How much does a planer take off? 2mm or so?

if so can you keep cutting till you take the correct amount off?

most planers will take off from 0 to 3mm in one go but with them being electric then they make light work......
