Hi,

I'm going to go and do a quote for some kitchen splashbacks and I could do with getting the pricing right. Work has been a bit slow recently and a good pay out would be nice.

Could anyone give me a rough estimate for the following,

10 sq m - kitchen
100 x 100 ceramic tiles
2 colour pattern
Diamond pattern
6 sockets to cut round

I've never priced a job on the 45 before and I don't want to go in too high, I also don't want to work for nothing! Would most people go on a day rate for this and estimate about 3-4 days?

Thanks for the help

Hi cjbombero,

When you say some kitchen splasbacks,do you mean that they are all 10 m2 or are all of them together 10m2?

I only charge a couple of pound a m2 more on the 45 as it's not as hard as people make out ,once you have your setting out point(for a splash back, usually half tile of the worktop)then the rest will go smoothly.(or it should).

Where it gets time consuming (you start loosing money) is when any window reveals come into play

Unless you are very experienced at 45's I would add much more than a couple of quid a Sq M

You can see a bit of one I did 10 years ago here. Getting the lines round the corners and past the trims takes plenty of time

Appologies if I havent been very clear, it's just the one kitchen equaling 10 sq m of tiling in total. I've only ever done one job like this and after a while I did get a grip of it! Pretty wide estimates here, ranging from £130 (day and a bit for me) to a week (more like £450)

Anyone else fancy sticking their neck on the line with this one?

Thanks for all the advice guys, I went round this evening and quoted £375. The customer is providing all materials and apart from the sockets the rest of the walls and window are in good shape. Only need to tile the window reveals, not the sill so that makes that a bit easier as well.

Fingers crossed... At the end of the day if it takes me four days i will still be ok and all the better for the experience! I will post any pics on completion.

cj it is down to you how much you charge for this one but dont under estimate this job 45 on a kitchen can be a little tricky i tiled one a few years ago and it took 3 days take your time with it but in a quote what you think is fair and if you think you have under priced it then put to experience. this will be a good learning experience so that alone will make it worth it
