The poxy splashback you are refering to was 4ms of 100x100 tiles. if you can do that in 5 to 6 hours with all cuts around sockets, kitchen cabinets etc, with grout and Silicon, then you are a superstar and you should be charging a premium price IMO.

To quote £330 for that job above indicates that there is some serious competition in your area. I certainly would not contemplate doing that job for £330 quid....inc materials!!! better off sitting in a Marks and Spencer check out for a week for that money. Much less stress.

There are splashbacks that are 3 tiles high running along 1 wall and there are splashbacks that are more involved as I am sure you are aware. To fix over 400 tiles cutting round sockets and wall units, grout and Silicon in 5 to 6 hours, is IMO not feasible.

if you can work that fast and to a standard that is acceptable to a cusomer then you should be charging more money as you will have built a reputaion.

I personally, am only 1 year into the trade and I am not embarrassed to say so. I, personally could not do that particular job in 5 to 6 hours, not would I want to. My work is coming through now via referrals and my customers are happy with what I quote and with the standard of my work.

I am laying a marble floor in a kitchen 2 weeks time. 6.7m2 floor needs prepping and levelling, customer came to me via referral and I will be charging in the region of £850 for the privilege.

Maybe I am in the right job after all. What do you think?

I can sympathise. My area isn't flush with tilers so idon't have the same problem. If it got to the stage where it became cut-throat and I started to lose trade on price I would consider doing something else. Tiling is hard, physical work and should be adequately remunerated. I am getting to a stage in my life where I don't need the pressure of chasing undervalued work.

Good luck, I hope things pick up for you.

Well i have all the tiles on the wall today, so tmro just got to go back and grout, and Silicon....They are very impressed with my standard of work, they want me to do a floor for them as well. And they phoned the tile shop up who recommended me and told them, and i got four more jobs to look at for the tile shop today.. I should put my prices up
