God yes. Had loads of knee operation as a teenager, so I'm a blinking expert. Was told that I would have serious troubles by the time I'm 40, and that never happened, largely due to the brilliant practice of T'ai Chi and watching my posture etc. Then had a clean out and repair job 3 or 4 years ago and was told I might need a new knee in 3- 5 years if I did anything that would make aggravate pain, but could wait 10-15 years if I am gently with it. I am gently with it, still do my physio exercises, don't overdo stuff and you know, I feel I'm actually getting better all the time, and rather than being fearful I am seeing things as a challenge to never ever need a new knee. Both my parents had hip and knee replacements and it wasn't good, so I'm just not going there. I can do loads more now than I could 2 years ago, the sketchers footwear is an absolute boon and I hardly wear anything else, even my slippers are sketchers  and honestly, I am more and more convinced that all health can be improved by a mental switch of ALLOWING intrinsic good health and recovery to happen rather than fearing the worst and ending up with self-fulfilling prophesies. Be positive and gentle with yourself :)

I've had "House Maids Knee" (bursitis) q and it was flippinuite bad a few times and was hospitalised twice due to it. Both times I was in for over 2 weeks, on iv antibiotics and daily syringing, which was flippin sore! last time i had it, the NHS wouldn't touch it, so I had the bursa removed on my Bupa last year and I've been fine since.

My lady's mum is due to have her knee replaced but she's been putting it off for a few years now. Has injections every few months.

Got a publican friend who had their knee done and he says it's the best thing he's done. He was also putting it off but wished he didn't. He was on crutches (and scotch whiskey) for about a week. But after that he walked perfectly again and said it doesn't hurt a bit now.

Neither crawl around on the floor like you perhaps do though. Both of theirs just deteriorated over time.

Got another friend who had their hip done 2 years ago. He was fine until this year, apparently it's broken somehow, but as he had a heart attack last year they don't want to put him under just yet as his heart might not take it. It's killing him he can't even sit down properly. I dread to think how awkward it is to even try and get sleep etc.

So you're not on your own mate. lol

how old do you have to be?

Replacement joints tend to come with an official 'life expectancy' of 10 years and then it is accepted that you may have to have them replaced, urrgh... I think waiting as long as possible is advisable as surgical methods and materials improve all the time.
