large tiles brickbond

hi guys when tiling walls with large tiles brickbond does anyone come across the problem when the walls run out ive got about an inch of addy behind the tiles to avoid lippage how do you guys avoid this happenening by the way the tiles are 600x300 travertine

straighten out the wall before you start tiling

Blez, the preparation of the walls is essential, 1 inch is far too much for the adhesive and could break down. You can build up in layers of adhesive but not all in one hit....Gaz

with gary there its something you should check for when looking ata job esp with large format tiles and esp on brick bond!!

thx guys but when progressing up the wall as its brickbond ive got to keep tiles flat and plum if i push tiles back flat to wall the tiles then lip thus only way out is loads of addy behind tiles i find it only takes a small high spot or hollow to cause this or am i setting out wrong ??

It isn't your setting out Blez, it is the wall prep as previously mentioned. You should have checked for plum and flatness pritor to starting your tiling. If you are already some way through fixing your tiles, maybe you should stop and take stock of your position. If you need to bring the walls back into line, maybe it is best to address it now, as best you can, before you carry on.

as you can see grumpy all done wall wasnt that bad just seemed to creep out used mapai addy so hopefully it will be ok

Was the wall a plastered wall?

If the adhesive bed is an inch thick there is a good chance it will shrink and crack. I would monitor the installation for a few weeks just in case. Wouldn't like one of those tiles to fall on my head.:no:

Straighten it out before you start?

I only asked the question because of the weight of the tiles you are using and the thickness of the adhesive bed will put you over the 20kg m2 weight limit for plastered walls. You should be aware for next time.

thx for replies lads you all sound like very good tilers but in the real world people dont want to pay as they have already paid some one else to do this
