laying slate

hiya lads, ill put the last cuts down this morning on this black riven real slate floor ,11sq mtrs,got the obligatory smears from the sponge,so gonna go monday and clean up ready for sealing, client likes the finish i showed him on offcut of ltp mattsone

would i be ok to to use grimex 10-1 ,straight off , rather than just water ,in the hope of getting it clean first time ,ill try a test patch

also when laying this accursed slate,working clean, would it hurt to have a drop of grimex in the 2 buckets of water?,cheers boys ,steve

Stevee - You're right to check everything first on the off cuts,
Personally I've never used Grimex or any other tile cleaner for slate.
Before all these purpose made products came on the market the best cement remover was brick cleaner.
Remember to use plenty of water take all precautions and have the room ventilated.
The only advise I can add is get it clean asap and allow it to thoroughly dry before you seall it.

hi steve,i find one sweep only from the sponge while cleaning then wash sponge before re wiping every time helps stop smearing and marks as well..hope tis is off use

thanks lads, did the bit with the sponge,maybe not changed the water as often as i could.......double stressed with trying to mate tiles that are bent,warped and out of square,

worrying about getting it spot on ,forgeting that its the nature of slate ,non uniform

glad theyre al laid now ,me knees are destroyed
tried a water grimex sweep over an offcut, sorts it out nice, so back for the big clean monday, thanks again lads,steve

Steve, do you wear Kneepads? I dont mean the ones that you wrap around your knees with straps, they are so uncomfortable, I use Helle Hanson workwear trousers with gel knee pads in the trousers, after 20 years tiling my knees are still fine, maybe a bit knobbly.........

mate i had 2 pairs on:smilewinkgrin:, i got a pair of strapped ones and put some dickies pads in em, part of the problem is ive been off work 4 months with a dodgy ticker and i weigh 17 stone, when the doctor weighed me ,he got out his ,body,mass ,index chart and said ,"according to this ,you should be 23 feet tall":smilewinkgrin:
