Leaking Shower enclosures

Those middle tiles have been dot dabbed on to the wall by the looks of the ones that have been stripped.

I would say the seal has failed on the shower screen profile.

I would only ever seal the outside of the shower.

there was a black tile run of different tiles through the middle which had been dotted but to my knowledge the rest are not, you can see this by some of the other pictures. The pipes are still live that are exposed and he had run the water and there are no leaks.
He has been back and taken that run of tiles off as shown in the picture to prove there was no leak from the pipes but now will not take responsibility for the problem and wants to charge to re grout(hopefully if that is the problem) and to re fix the tiles he has removed. He is blaming the metal strips.

The water is definatly coming from behind the tiles. The screen is well sealed inside and out. When he removed the the middle section of tiles the wall was very wet.

And sorry what do you mean failed on the shower screen profile? I think he on sealed both sides to see if that fixed the problem.....and it didnt!

Water cant pass through the listellos (metal strips).

I dont think its a major problem, i would dig that grout out & re do & also do the same with the silicone.

I wouldnt pay him to regrout as it should have been done right the 1st time.

He's blaming the metal strips? how long has metal been porous?

The profile is the part you fix to the wall then fit the screen into it.

I screw & silicone this to the tiles as this makes it a really good seal then i silicone outside shower only

How was the tap fitting sealed ,and the screen should of only be sealed on the outside

When our fitter came back the 1st time he did check the screw holes and he did silicone them, he has tried to fix the issue(easy fixes that didnt take long) but everything he has tried has not worked. I expect to re-grout will take quite a bit of his time and to refit the removed tiles, that is why he is not keen to do this free of charge.

Might be a bit blunt but he has charged you to install a shower and it has failed so now its up to him to fix

The tap fitting on the other shower was fine as the wet part of the wall was a little way below it, the wall around the tap was dry. The water seemed to have come from the sides where the cream tiles meet onto the part of the wall that had been exposed by removing the middle tiles. The tap has been sealed with a clear sealant-again twice.

Was the tray to wall joint sealed before tiling commenced..?.. the spot fixing will not help the passage of water..

So he wants to charge you for repairing sub-standard work that he carried out? That's like having an undercooked piece of chicken in a restaurant and the chef blaming the chicken for jumping out of the frying pan too early.

Im not sure about the tray to wall joint-i dont know! There is silicone at the base of the tray which was behind the tiles where the tiles have been removed so im guessing so.

Looking closer at the pic there seems to be a water mark starts about 300mm down from tap and slowly gets wider at bottom then at the base the internal corner is darker either side of the water mark,
When the tiling is complete the tap mechanism needs to be sealed to the tile not just sealed with the cover

I really dont think it is the tap, there was no water marks below the tap and i think the 2 darker bits you refer to are actually sealant connecting the wall to the tray. I will add another couple of pics so you can have a closer look

The water is travelling along the back of the tiles and through the gaps at the back and creeping along the wall... it is a rip out and re-do IMO

The copper pipe is giving you an indication shinny and new near the tap and not so new down below ,Agree with Dave needs ripping out and re doing ,suggest use a waterproofing membrane next time .also dot and dab fixing is not recomended.

Agree with Dave sorry rip out and re do is the only to fix the mess the "installer" has left you with.

The job from start to finish does not look like the work of a pro Tiler and to blame the products is just lame.
Dont like a tile of that size and weight dotted on to plaster either.

That does not sound to good. How can you tell from the pipe? Yes i did notice the pipe had gone green. What is the cause of this and how is the water getting onto the back of the tile? Waht do you guys suggest i do from here then? And what shall i say to the installer, i may just show him this thread....is that ok?

Copper pipe when it is constantly exposed to moisture tends to go green with mold

Spot fixing and bad grouting etc is a disaster in a shower area.
I have two showers to rip out in one house at the tail end if this week, the tiler who tiled them doesn't want to know!!
Again i'm taking tiles off and waterproofing etc then re tiling when all dry.
I'v already had a plumber go in and check all the pipes.

Why do you recommend to start over now instead of trying to re-grout first to see if that is the problem?

I didn't realise there was spot fixing as I have read now.
It's hard for us to see everything without actually being there.
By ripping out and starting again with proper tanking/sealing/tiling/grouting etc only then can it be guaranteed provided the plumbing is ok.
