Hi all

I'm working on a bathroom at the mo...i've plastered it 2 walls sand and cement 1 boarded and skimmed.

I'm planning to use Bal Grip directly onto these surfaces when dry.

Unfortunately my plastering isn't perfect in some areas i will need to pack it out apprx 6mm to keep the tiles in line. Should i use Bal grip as i go along to do this?...reason i ask is because it says in the specs max 3mm bed i reckon that i will need a max 9mm bed in some areas for good finish...should i use a different adhesive first to fill these voids on plaster skim and sand and cement?

Thanks!

Aaron

You would be better trying to get your walls flat first. Grip will not pack out more than about 3mm otherwise it will shrink and crack. Rapidset would be better but you can only pack out so far with that as well.

Try skimming the wall with rapidset and use a plasterers feather to pull it off level. Trying to "level off" by packing out your tiles is false economy. Only do it if you really have to.

If you skim over with rapidset, you will be able to tlile in 3 hrs. You could also use a product called Ardex AM100 which is designed for this sort of thing, dries in 2 hrs.

If you are putting rapidset onto plaster then yes you will need to prime, use BAL APD.

As an aside, you would have been better not skimming the plasterboard if you are tiling it. You have reduced the max weight you can have for tiling down to 20kg/m2 from 28kg/ms. You could have tiled straight onto it.
