A plumber working for my sister did have cause to make a claim whilst working on her property. It was unfortunate really, rather than negligence on his part.

They paid out without a fuss, after assessing the damage IIRC.

Also, a poster on the Screwfix plumbing forum admits to having claimed. Apparently it was a leak up in the loft and by his own admission the customer did very well out of it with new carpets throughout etc.

I have my liability with Fortis...

About 5 yr back i was tiling a kitchen floor in indian black slate....I had the floor tiled and grouted.....all nice and dry and was going to apply the last coat of sealer....

As i was working my way out of the kitchen and onto the hallway carpet..( all dust sheeted up) I finished applying the sealer and placed in down carfully on a spare tile on top of the dust sheet....
I stood up and turned around to walk out side and snagged my foot on the dust sheet which in turn pulled against the tile i had me sealer sat on and the sealer fell over into the room adjacent to the hallway..( dining room)...i quickly picked up the tin but no good , a 6 inch circle was already there.....i was gutted..customer away on holiday and that.....

Anyway i forwarded all details onto fortis and they dealt with it very quickly.....

That is the only time i have ever used my liability....would never be without it...as you can see accidents can happen easily..

All you can do in a situation like that is contact your insurer then carry on with the job and finish.

Once I was working at a customer's house when a couple of guys turned up in a van marked "Burglar Alarms" and carried out a sheet of toughened glass for a hall table.

They placed it on the frame, showed it to the customer, had a discussion then they left.

Later the customer told me what had happened. One of the fitters dropped his drill onto it. He was on the top of the stairs working above the table that was on the ground floor.

Apparently, everyone in the house heard the drill hitting the table. There was glass everywhere and the fitter was apparently beside himself with guilt.

To be fair to them, the company had gone back to Habitat, where the table was originally purchased, and managed to get them to supply a replacement top for it. They then deivered it to the house - talk about service!

Never had to claim.

But last week I had a job that involved taking out a corner shower enclosure......stripping off tiles (2 swearing not allowed layers:furious3:) and then retiling. The walls were a nightmare from start to finish..........and then after drilling new holes for shower screen, and then silconing everywhere, I fitted the OLD enclosure back.

It was a couple of mm out at the bottom, so I knelt down next to it and gave it a little tap with the back of my hand.........When B A N G. the bloody thing exploded..........it was like a gun going off next to me. The (safety glass) shot everywhere, up the hall, in the bath, all over me. I just sat on the edge of the bath not knowing weather to laugh or cry. I was 15 mins from finishing and going home.

The woman had given me her keys as she was away for a few days.........so I had to leave her a note

Got a replacement and fitted it yesterday....................£27 from ebay:thumbsup::lol:
A bit worried as it was white and hers was chrome-ish........but donkeys years old. She was happy.......I think she was anyway, cos she had a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp all the time :whatchutalkingabout
