Liability insurance

Will be going full time in the next few months and was pricing for liability insurance.

Got a quote from Direct Line to cover 3 trades IE
Tiling, plastering & joinery just to see what it would cost.
£1000,000 of cover was £59 & if I added a £1000
of tool cover it went up to £122 .
Then I added in plumbing as one of the trades just to see what it would cost £198 & that was without tool cover.
So who actually covers themselves for plumbing work in their insurance as I am always reading about you guys taking the WC and wash basin out to tile or do most of you get plumbers in to do this?

I don't but thats because I do alot of work for plumbers. My liability covers me for plastering and tiling

mines multi trade, believe it or not its painting that bumps the premiums

something to do with burning off fascias etc

Mines about £350 it's because of hot work with plumbing.

Just been on direct line and it's £400+ thats before I put in tiling, electrical, joinery etc.

Those who are getting quotes with Direct line on line would do well to give them a call.

I almost took out an online quote, but phoned up to speak to them about a detail.

It turns out that they had another general tradesman policy that covered people who did a bit of everything, sort of handyman policy. Guess who just saved 50%!:hurray:

The tool cover doesn't cover me for tools in the van overnight, and is limited to £1500 but they did say they were working on that detail.

I've just upped it from £1m to £5m, and the additional premium was less than £5! I needed the extra because I needed to put a prop and some fencing on the highway so Cornwall County Council required a permit application and £5m PL.
