Hi All,

a reasonably experienced diy tiler here! I know there's lots of threads on backerboard but can't seem to find what i'm after.

My kitchen is chipboard with 6mm ply on top, missus wants the scabby vinyl replaced with tiles.

A few questions:

  • The chipboard is pretty stable and the 6mm ply is nailed on top. Now i know no-one here will recommend tiling on top of 6mm ply so i was planning 6mm hardie backer board but is there any benefit to leaving the ply underneath or should i just lift it and replace with the hardie board?
  • There is a slight slope in one area, should i slc under or on top of hardie board?
  • I normally use bal products. Is there one adhesive that can be used for under the hardie board and on top for sticking the tiles?

Any advice greatly appreciated!!

Andrew
