Limestone tiles - Edge Quality - Help Required

Hi,

I have recently purchased some Limestone tiles from a supplier on the internet. The tiles have now arrived but the quality of the cut seems poor.

The edges of 99% of the tiles contain at least one chip, lots of the tiles have small pieces of the corner missing.

Having never purchased limestone before I would like to check that the tiles shpould have perfect square edges before I ask the seller for a refund.

Now I expected one or two tiles to have slight imperfections but not nearly all of them.

Any advice would be great!

Hello and welcome... this is the problem sometimes when purchasing online some are great but too many cheap suppliers are hitting the market.. if you are not happy then you need to complain ASAP.. to get it resolved..

hello,i have only fitted limestone twice but on both occasions tiles were cleanly cut,that doesnt look right to me imo

This is one of the best ones, still has got one rought edge.

were these from a shop or from the internet?

Some white limestones are soft and that type of edge is common but severe chipping isn't.. once grouted small chipping doesn't show..

Thanks for the quick replies.

The advert says each stone is hand selected blah blah but every stone is honed and cut.

Have contacted the supplier this morning and they have asked for pictures. Sent pictures but neard anything back. The builder also took a look and said reject the lot.

They were purchased from a shop but they also have an online shop from which I made the purchase.

Don't really want to name the firm as they haven't been given a chance to sort it out yet

I just laid 150m2 of limestone last week some small chips in some. Once grouted with a matching colour the floor looked good. For me your tiles have been poorly packed. As the stone is soft you can see if you can rub some chips out. Also make sure you seal the tiles once before you start laying as limestone shows up any marks.

I had similar problems with 600x600x20mm polished marble just over a week ago, i had 4 and a half pallets !! i told shop to send out 2 more and take the crap back, i also asked for the manager to come out and go through the 2 new pallets,lol.
Fair play to him he came and out of 101 tiles in the 2 pallets there was 28 good ones !! oops.
Lorry had to wait so it had plenty to go back on.
I finally 2 days later got a superb batch to finish the job.
Seems to be a downturn in quality about, be careful everyone.

Its Limra limestone, turkish and soft, and the market is flooded with these cheap imports. To be honest you will always get this type of chipping on soft limestone, it just doesnt travel well even in the polystrene packing. If your really not prepared to have the chips filled in when grouting, then your going to have a bigger nightmare when the floor is laid. If the supplier accepts the stone back, then select something harder than this IMO.

To be honest you will always get this type of chipping on soft limestone, it just doesnt travel well even in the polystrene packing. If your really not prepared to have the chips filled in when grouting, then your going to have a bigger nightmare when the floor is laid. If the supplier accepts the stone back, then select something harder than this IMO.
