m2 pricing advice

Hello I've been to look at a job today tiling 202 m2 of walls in 8 different rooms in a school,the tiles are 150mm x 150mm,I've got to quote price per m2,with the tiles been small & the firm taking 20% of my earnings through UTR Number what would people recommend charging.Kind Regards gary.

Depends how much you need the job Gary. I would say £20 m2 but the way things are I think they would want cheaper.
£10-15 m2 is closer to the mark I would imagine, if the walls are good and you can get 10m2 done a day then you can make it pay.

As the fellas have said, anything over £15 m2 seems to be getting laughed at at the moment.

I'm doing some work for a window company and getting £30 m2 but I supply adhesive and grout and they are ceramics...

If it's big open areas then they won't be long going up. Done a similar job in a school a few years ago and as a 3rd year apprentice I was still putting 25m a day up. Probably wasn't the neatest work in hindsight, but can make good progress none the less.

As for the question.
You have to price it as a job - 202mts in 8 rooms - it's the equivalent to 8 good bathrooms in the same house, no travelling,no estimates and all in 6inch white.
Since the tiles are going to be £5 a metre your not going to get £20 a metre to fix them!
As for the tax deduction, you'd have to pay it sometime so don't worry if it's now - it's only a bit of cash flow.
If you've got little or no overheads and you can do 20mts a day you may get it at £12/mt - it's what I was getting for contract work in 1984!

Deducted at source means you'll be able to claw a good bit of it back come rebate time too.

the simple way to look at it is
a. how many mtrs will you do a day comfortable
b. how much are your overheads per day
c. how much do you need to earn a day

(b+c) / a = price per square
