Just realised last night. Tiling a bathroom, customer wants the whole floor tiled then the shower tray sat on top however I have tiled all the walls as well so the tray will butt up against the wall tiles! Arrrrggghhhh!! They are not going to be easyvto remove so I'm thinking, mark the line and then remove with grinder?

That could work but it could get a bit messy. What tile type are they? Try to scribe the line in them so that any cracks are prevented from running up the tile higher than the line.

Might be worth just trying to pop off that row though, even if you have to smash them off and end up with a full tile that you can mark upto with a cut. ?

Hi guys, it was an error in comunication between myself and customer, my fault really tbh! The tiles are 900mm long ceramic from porcelainosa. I'm of the opinion that the tile should always come down on top of the tray however due too sheer luck the wall is perfectly square so I wonder if it would be more beneficial to simply butt the tray up to tiles between a gasket of Silicon and then Silicon the try as I usually would. I have never done this before and never heard of it being done but I can't think of any reason why it would not work. Obviously if anyone can give me the slightest reason why this is not a good idea then they need tome off as I'm not risking a failure.

If you butt the tray up to the tiles, and water gets behind the tiles, it will run down the wall and eventually to the floor etc

The reason you'd want to butt the tray up to the (tanked) wall, is to ensure water from behind the tile falls into the tray and not somewhere else, or even worse, sits there long-term causing rot, mould etc etc

On your head mate. Might be okay. Might not be.

I'd pull the tiles off and cut fresh ones in situ after tanking the tray to the substrate.

Some tray's do butt up tight... if it does then Silicon floor to wall tile transition first then also Silicon the whole of the side/sides that touch the wall... it won't leak if done right... but only if the tray fits in neat... i have seen a few tray's that actually do go in after tiling..

It's a low 2 inch tray Dave, might be worth contacting the suplier of the tray for advice!

The grinder and guide route would work. Just remember to take the tile and adhesive depth into consideration/off the tray markings. Else once you get it into the corner you'll have a rather large gap at the end of each run from the corner. ;) You'd have to remove one tile i think for sliding it in.

If it's a flat edge tray rather than tapered you could butt it up into the corner. Get yourself a tube of this stuff:
CT1 Sealant, Adhesive, Bonding, Glue, Silicon

Put a bid on the side edges as they touch the wall. It's awesome stuff! Then once set-in, seal around tray as you normally would.

Charlie, i fitted a shower tray in my downstairs toilet a couple of month back.

It stated to tile first then fit tray, I just didnt fancy the idea of butting the tray up to the tiles.

As Dan said, In theory if water does get behind tiles then it will run back into the tray.

I bought the shower tray from i-bath uk.

I would pop that bottom run of tiles off & cut fresh tiles onto the tray. I think going with the grinder is a lot more hassle.
