No leave them be! - but this is the advised practice for new work carried out and has been for a while. Plasterboards and timber based boards are not to be specified, if they are the tiler should advise / carry out WPC or membrane application. Its designated by the BS for bathrooms, comes under BS5385 for tiling.
For walls - in practice if its just there already by contractor / client then always apply WPC - not your call. for panels - its not the right stuff, not strong enough and vulnerable to water.
If alls well on your own panel, well fine but it isnt right for priced work.

Grumpy backer boards are the best thing to make a bath panel in but if a bath panel is under the bath lip i am sure it wont get to wet a lot less than a bath wall or a bathroom floor but there is a nice way to get your point across lol

Plasterboard is not ok for use as a bath panel and shouldnt be advised to be used on any advice forum. Sorry, but does this need to be pointed out?
