Making mosiac tile sheets

I would like to try to make my own mosiac tile sheets. Has anyone else tried this?

I was thinking of making a frame to hold all the tiles and then somehow stick the mesh to the back of them. Any advice appreciated. Does anyone know where I could buy the mesh backing?

Try paper on the front with a weak glue that looses its grip when wet. No mesh needed!

Thanks I'll give that a go. I might need to make quite a few up first and leave them for a while though. If I do I'll use fibre glass mesh with pva.

You need a setting tray and you can get the mesh from craft shops or you can have a look at this site This is the website of the Mosaic Workshop. Welcome.

i agree davy i prefer paper faced mosaic

If you are making your own sheets it is much easer to make them using gum paper as stated. But if you are doing a pattern of some kind you will need to mark the paper to indicate which way around it goes as you can’t see what you are fixing

I made this one 2' x2' for a clients steam shower about 8 years ago.
I don't care much for the color scheme, but I didn't pick the tiles.

In case this is useful to anyone else this is the site I found that stocks mosaic tiling tools. Including a tray and the fibre glass backing mesh.

It's going to be a fun job this one as it's for my new kitchen in Spain where we've bought a cave house : ) I'm not a fan of mosaic tiles usually but cave walls aren't the flattest so I figure a bit of give will come in handy. Wish me luck ; )

If I was in your cave, I would grind down the high spots and prime and use a leveling mud to smooth out the area I was going to tile.
If there are natural curves you want to keep then mosaics are the perfect choice for wrapping around them.
