Mapei Grout

Greetings all. I am having problems with the Mapei grouts in that the coloured grouts when used on ceramic tiles will not give me a uniform colour over the whole job. It is so annoying as the different shades make the finish shabby and amateur looking. On the porcelain tiles I have no such problem???
I have spoken to Mapei support and they say I am wetting the grout too much????? That to me is rubbish as why am i not suffering the same problem on porcelain?

Any one else had same problem?? have you overcome it??

Is this the Ultracolor Plus? How are you mixing the grout? If it is the Ultracolor, then it needs to be mixed differently to any other grout. You need to follow the directions on the bag (even if they do seem odd).

I only use Ultracolor on floors as I think that it is a pig to work with on walls and personally I dont like the finish, I find it far to course so I use the Keracolor FF on walls, SF for mosaics (only in white) and the Ultracolor on floors.

Thanks Rich, I was using Ultra colour. I have used Mapei for 8 years and have done their courses which adds insult to injury. So, yes mixing technique was done to the book. It seems whatever I do I cannot get a uniform shade on ceramics, can't get my head round it. Don't know if this can assist you anymore?

Hmmm... *Rich scratches his head*

What colours have you had trouble with? I have had problems with the white not being very white but not the grout drying patchy. How long had the grout been left when you noticed that it had not dried uniformed? Is it possible that it had not totally cured? Maybe someone else has had the same problems?

I dont suppose you have any pics of the grout?
