Yeah i leave it to settle for a few mins then mix again. The only time i didn't do this (not with Mappei gear actually), ended up with loads of air in the grout, so do it always now. I mix by hand too; no point getting the mixer dirty for the stupid quantities i mix hehe!

I always mix by hand, also do the second mix. Using a mixer airates the grout to much and it solidifies to quickly.
Mapei is my prefered.
Many stores here sell "Custom" grout. sets too fast

Drop the speed of your mixer down - that will sort out the aeration problem. The ciggy break time* (hard to do if you've given up, of course!) will give the mix time to settle. Then another SLOOOOOW mixing - I just use the trowel now - just to stir it up a little.

*A good time to clean up a little...

And that would be why every adhesive manufacturer that i have known actually states using a mixer ??
Actually i mix grout by hand myself but as stated as long as you dont use high speed it is fine.

when we first started with addy/grout, instead of white OPC or gray fixing mosaic, i mixed everything by guage trowel , now i look at the tubs of pug i mix and wounder how i did it ,it mad!! :lol:
