marble floors & walls

Hi all

Have a job to price up walls & floor with these tiles 300x 300 marble tiles
Wickes  – Tiles – Floor Tiles – Natural Stone Tiles – Emprador Marble Wall and Floor Tiles

Emprador Marble floor & wall tiles, never used these before so wondering what meterage rate would be good for these to be compatative 20m2 for walls & 8m2 for floor do they need sealing & are they ok weight wise to go onto plastered walls? also a window to take into consideration

should i be loooking at around £30-£35 a metre on both floors & walls?

Will i need a stone cutting blade on my cutter (plasplugs master tiler) to handle these tiles, what blade would you recommend?

Thanks your help recently has been really good as i'm having problems with pricing my jobs on day rate & needing to be more competitive with more experienced tilers on metreage rates.

I would think too heavy for plastered walls. If I remember correctly it is 20kgs a sqm for plastered walls including adhesive and grout. Depending on thickness, marble can weigh alot.

I would imagine they are about 10mm thick and would definitely be more than 20kgs for a sqm (11 tiles)

EDIT: Yes, they would need sealing. But only a light coat and then buff off excess after 15mins or so

If you work clean, then fixed before grouting should be ok. If any adhesive does get on the surface, wipe it off pretty quickly

I've head a lot of different opinions on sealing stone so wasn't sure

they do look as though they have been honed, and if so, should be ok to seal prior to fixing, if you so wish imo

As Doug says, you can seal prior to fixing. All depends what you want to do

What about the meterage rate for these as I'm assuming they will take a bit longer to seal & cut etc

that all depends on the going rate in your area mate, for those tiles and in my area i would be charging £35 m2, i have my big wet cutter set up for all the straightcuts,, and use my angle grinder for angled cuts and shapes, make sure you work clean and good luck.

agree with Rav. Allow yourself an extra day too - If you havent used marble or other stone before, is best to give yourself a bit more time to get it done right first time
