Marble on plaster skimmed walls

Im to lay marble mosaics onto 2 skimmed walls inside a shower cubicle but there has been a mention of the weight issue on plaster skim and so was wondering would screwing thin say 6mm cement or hardi board into the studs on top of the plasterboard be a better option? Only ask because the owner and builder after listening to what I had to say arnt up for cutting out and replacing the skimmed board so if my idea is a no go I might have to give this job a miss as I dont want to risk everything ending up on the floor..

Any thoughts?

If I gave every job a miss because of reading other peoples views I wouldn't get any work!
This forum is here to advise all people who are interested or have a passion for tiling and tiles.
At the end of the day the final judgement is yours and before the industry came up with the relevant guidelines and ratios many an experienced tiler would tile on substrate that have previously been deemed suitable.
There is a weight limit that the industry have provided for tiling on to skimmed plaster walls and the best way(I'am advised) is to weigh the tiles and see if it comes within the range for 1sq mt.
As I haven't had the need of late to weigh 10 sheets of marble mosaics I'd be suprised if it was more than 21kg/sq mts inc adhesive and grout!

I'll be amazed if your marble mosaic is above the weight limit for plaster:yikes: - is it tumbled 25mm square mosaic?

Havent saw the tiles yet but only know at this point in time that its marble of some sort. Not the best I know. I hadnt really thought it be a problem but some others did and since im not the most experienced I thought I better seek more advice. I Intended doing the following,

Prime
Thin layer of addy
Tanking matting
3mm addy bed
Tiles
Grout

and jobs a good one:lol:
