Just wondering how important or not you think it is to have a mobile phone on you during the day.

Personally I would rather not deal with calls during the day, and just ring anybody back that leaves a message later on rather than down tools to take calls, which are usually cold callers anyway.

Can you get away without mobiles altogether, or would you lose work without one by not being able to respond fast enough?

I'm thinking most genuine customers would leave a message during the day or ring in the evening if you cant be contacted during the day, but I dont know.

i personally feel that having your mobile on 7-9 is as important as your trowel and buckets....use yourself as an example.....when you call the bank and get one of those automated thingies....dont you think.......oh..........bo.........x......
you customers want to talk to a person and have them answer their querys.....and then you get the job.

some people dont loke answering machines and those people may call back, after calling the competition....

all the best!

not all people will leave a msg, so sometimes you have to answer the phone!
if its a withheld number or one thats not local i don't answer due to most of the time its cold callers like 'CUSTOMER STREET' & we all know wot a nuisense they are!

if you don't have your mobile on during the day whilst at work, I'm afraid you'll end up posting something like this...."Not had any work for a few weeks now, how is everybody else finding it"
If you get cold calls from cutomer street or any of the other advertisers, just say "can you hold the line for a minute" put your phone down and carry on working they'll hang up...eventually..Mark.

I think you already know the answer to your own question dont you Ryan lol......mobiles are a neccesary evil cause we live in a NOW society, so you may not want to answer the phone NOW, but your customers want you too, and if you don't they may then call someone else who will answer NOW! It is a pain though cos they always ring at the worst possible moment. What I have done is I have my mobile set so that I just press the answer button and it answers on speaker so at least I don't need to use my hands or hold it to my ear......mind you anyone listening must love it when it's my wife ringing up to talk dirty to me :whatchutalkingabout lol

Re: evil

Might have to use one in a limited way then, I'll put it on speakerphone and shout in to it from a safe distance lol.

It's funny - there is a lot of awareness about the dangers of abestos nowadays.
I dont think many tradesmen would even touch jobs without face protection - if at all, and yet we are all supposed to submit to being guinnea pigs to a technology which many cancer experts says will probally be WORSE than asbestos!

This is probally the BIGGEST health threat to tilers and the self employed today.
Evil is the right word for it.

Re: dicing with death

And I dont happen to know anyone who has died from jumping off a cliff, or poisioned themselves to death with rat poison and I dont think I will try either of these though just because I dont happen to know anybody who has died that way.

If you read the article it says "that using handsets for 10 years or more can double the risk of brain cancer", so it will probally be in the next few years that cancer rates increase if it does.
Its early days though, so lets all wait - with our fingers crossed - until its to late before we do anything about it - just to be on the safe side.
