Hi, there. We have just acquired a new house in a district of Coventry called Earlsdon. Many of the houses here have beautiful Minton floors in the entrance hall. Our house, a large detached property, will certainly have had one in the past, but now has a wooden floor floated above the ground. The vendors told us that it was put down by the previous owners, but that it does not cover a Minton floor. They were rather vague about what was under it, but thought it was some greyish stuff. We haven't been able to look yet, because we'd have to damage it to get underneath. The fact that the under-stairs cupboard has red quarry tiles suggests that the entrance hall would almost certainly have been Minton, exactly like my previous house.
So, my questions are firstly, has anyone seen anything similar to this, and what might have happeneds? Secondly, is it possible today to get Minton newly laid? And thirdly, is there a modern equivalent to Minton that you might recommend?
