hahaha dave...is that what Mr Bean drove?
Hi Rob
mr bean drove a mini made by british leyland
the Imp was made by the rootes group as a market rival
the imp was a remakable car in its day, the only thing that let it down was its tenancy to run hot , which is dangerous with an aluminium block and head
the other problem was extensiive rot
the engine was based on the coventry climax water pump fitted to fire engines and was placed in the rear . so it was a rear engined rear wheel drive car with a deceptively large passenger compartment for a car of its size
in competition it was the best in its class for many years , knocking the mini into second place everytime
as a day to day production car it could be troublesome and expensive to keep on the road as it suffered cooling problems with the engine being in the rear and a" cooked" imp didnt last long
ive had many of these through my hands over the years and providing you understand their shortcomings they are a pleasurable and lively car to drive
