My brand new Montolit 63 P2 is a bit of a lottery for me and I need to know if I'm getting it wrong or it's a problem with the cutter.

Today was the first time I've used it on porcelain (Baldocer Caliza Grade 2) and it has beena chore. The cut line has either been wobbly and the edge needed shaving off with my wet cutter, the edge has burst near the breaker (5-6mm deep and up to 30mm long) or there has been in inner or outer curve on the last 30mm of the cut looking like a mini ski jump:mad2:

I have tried lighter pressure on scoring, harder scoring, double scoring, lighter tapping when breaking, shart taps, slams you name it and it is still inconsistent. I've also adjusted the nut on the breaker all to no avail. My old TS60 PLus was way better with this stuff before it got old and tired. Neat regular cuts with rare breakouts.


I have watched the YouTube vid on TT a couple of times and I don't think I'm doing anything obvious. Tried this with thinner porcelain and it was the same.

This is costing me time and money and stress so I need some help. Any Monti users got any tips as to why I'm so bad with this piece of kit?

fancied the TX700 but I opted for the Monti as it was a bit less over my overdraft limit

Have you tried turning the tile over? works for me sometimes on the tx if a tile is a bugger to cut.

I have a few offcuts which I'm going to have more practice on tomorrow. Will give it a go. These are pretty tough tiles but it does cut ok sometimes. I think I prefer the dual rail system too as you can see where you are scoring a bit easier.

I had a problem even with the TX with rock hard porcs, only once though.

very disappointed with the cutter. Not sure what to do now. Would like to exchange for a TX. Plus the extra cash of course.

Mine has a ropey old wheel in it and cuts great

Mine has a ropey old wheel in it and cuts great

Its brand new so the wheel should be ok. Tried adjusting the head and it helped a bit. Will have a good fiddle with it tomorrow while I wait for the addy to set on the wetroom floor. Lets see how we go. Got a 60x40 ceramic and 60x30 porc next week so its going to get a good shakedown.

i've had my monti now 12 months, i tend to use mine left handed. it's most important to set the pressure on the breaker correct 1st though, then just score it and a tap on the handle, done. using right hand i tend to be too heavy with it causing the probs you are having.

The sigma has a new breaking system called max, I think, almost a copy of the monti.
