Mortar beds on walls and floors?

Yes Lucius - many quarry tile floors just as you describe, back when I started - pet shops visited for sawdust bags must have thought we kept lions!

TFS,

I never heard about using sawdust while setting, but the old-timers told me that was always the way to clean up grout way back when.

Mortar work is still the standard in San Francisco and I hope that doesn't change. It gives you the ability to do whatever you want wherever you want on perfectly plumb and level surfaces. In my experience cement board isn't any quicker to install and just causes problems with it not being perfectly plumb and level.I realize that San Francisco is a very wealthy city and that people do spend vast amounts of money on their homes allowing you to not have to cut corners.Still it is a shame that a superior method of installation seems to be disappearing. We didn't use to consider people who didn't do their own mud work as tilers.Oh well, times change.Keep it rolling Rob.

I'm interested in hearing more about your time working in SF. Mrs Z and I spent three days in San Fran during orur honeymoon and had a wonderful time in the city.

Hello guys,

I would like to know how I can estimate for mortar mix per square meter. Can anyone help?
