mosaic border technique

Hi guys

the question of fixing mosiac strips as a border whem they are thinner than the tiles comes up on here now and again.

I was laying in some mosiac borders today and took pics to illustrate one technique you can use.

the addy is benfer standard set c2

Do you wait for it to set then apply another layer before you fix the mosaic

Excellent post, but is there a need to explain the "dog tooth" too?

no the dog tooth scraper is made to leave 2 mm of bed to allow the mosiac to bed in without any addy coming out of the joints, its a quick way to do it a linear meter takes about 10 mins

the dog tooth tool is made from an off cut of upvc cut to fit the gap between the 2 tiles nicely and to a depth to give the requierd bed for a flush finish

I find if I have a thin mosaic and thick field tiles I have to build up less a couple mil and wait for it to set then reapply addy then as your excellent demo

i know what you mean, in that situation i too would do it in 2 stages.
this one was simple as the trav was 12mm on a 8mm trowel and the mosiacs 10mm so the bed was about 6mm so ok for in one go

mine is an old 8mm rubi trowel that i cut down with the grinder

how do you leave the required gap for the border spanish ? i usually go to wickes and buy some plained timber pack (around 8 quid for 8 lengths) get the nearest size to the border size then stick in where border goes then put the top half on let it set take out the timber then put the mosaics in exactly the same way as you works for me !
