Mosaic Floor

Got a job today , The lady wants an old mosaic floor lifted and re set . I thought no chance untill i went and had a look , The tiles are lifting no problem as the seem to have been set dry with no grout gap . Under the tile is just a thin layer of dust and it looks like housedust not addy dust .The lady said the house is about a hundred years old so i take it the tiles are as well . It looks as if i will have to use a very thin bed of addy and the smallest of grout gap . Iwa thinking o brushing the grout in dry and just wetting with a damp sponge once done . . I would be very greatull or any ideas ,and help guys . Thanks in advance . L. M Tiles

I would photograph the floor and number the tiles then lift them, then i would relay with flexi floor adhesive, and mix my grout so its like slurry, then tip it onto the floor and grout as normal. Also i would clean the tiles before removing.

hi have done one of these get some shuttering ply or mdf off a size you can handle and put batten all around when you lift and clean the tiles mark and lay on the ply in the same pattern sounds a lot of work but it will save you a lot of time when you put them back and if they are old they may not be the same size even if they look the same tile good luck

Draw a plan of the room and tile lay out.. Number the tiles and then transfer this to the plan. then you can lift the tiles and relay using the plan you did....as for grouting just use a slurry mix ,,may take a couple of goes to fill joints well , leave to set a bit before washing off........dave...

Cheers guys Got photos etc and will be using thin bed flexi addy :BAL: and willdo as you all say and make a sluury grout . Great when you can rely on this site or some re assurance .
